26 October 2026: Cosmetic Treatment Proposals Put Practitioner Qualifications in Focus
This week’s medical travel bulletin looks at proposed cosmetic treatment restrictions in England, surgeons’ concerns about qualifications, and an update to UK travel advice for Istanbul. For patients considering treatment in Türkiye or North Cyprus, the practical focus is checking who will provide treatment and how care will be arranged.

England consults on high-risk cosmetic treatments
On 21 October, the government announced a consultation on tighter controls for high-risk cosmetic procedures in England. Proposed measures would restrict certain treatments to specified healthcare professionals, with body fillers such as liquid Brazilian butt lifts restricted to doctors.
The consultation remains open until 13 January 2027. The proposals have not yet become law and do not change treatment rules in Türkiye or North Cyprus. Read the government announcement. GOV.UK
Why a practitioner’s specific training matters
Responding on 21 October, the Royal College of Surgeons of England said the proposals should go further in protecting cosmetic surgery patients. It called for appropriate surgical training and expertise relevant to the operation being performed. Read the College’s response. Royal College of Surgeons
For patients comparing treatment options, this raises a useful question: what qualifications and experience does the proposed practitioner have for your particular procedure?
Before committing, request clear answers to these questions:
Who will perform my treatment, and what are their relevant qualifications?
Which hospital or clinic will provide it?
What does the proposed procedure involve?
Who will manage follow-up and any complications?
What additional costs could arise if my care plan changes?
Keep the answers alongside your written treatment plan and quotation so you can compare options carefully.
Istanbul travel advice has changed
On 19 October, the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office removed information about heavy rain and flooding in Istanbul from its Türkiye travel advice.
That earlier notice should therefore not be treated as an ongoing warning. Continue checking current destination advice, transport information and local weather before travelling. Check the latest FCDO advice. gov.uk
Your next step
Clear information about the practitioner, facility and follow-up arrangements helps you assess a treatment proposal. Take time to resolve unanswered questions before paying a deposit or booking travel.
