2 November 2026: Türkiye Travel Guidance and New Breast-Reduction Research
This week’s medical travel bulletin covers updated UK travel guidance for Türkiye and newly published research on breast-reduction surgery. For patients considering treatment abroad, both developments highlight the value of checking the details of your journey and your proposed care.
Türkiye travel advice: check your route before departure
On 27 October 2026, the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office updated the regional-tensions section of its Türkiye travel advice.
The current guidance asks British travellers in or travelling through the Middle East to prepare for possible flight cancellations, airspace closures and disruption. It recommends keeping departure plans under review and monitoring airport and airspace information. This does not mean every journey to Türkiye is affected. Read the current FCDO advice. GOV.UK
For a treatment trip, consider the whole itinerary, including any connecting airport. Before departure, check your airline’s updates and clarify how to contact your treatment coordinator if travel arrangements change. European patients should also consult their own government’s destination advice.
Breast-reduction research: interpreting the findings carefully
A study published on 30 October 2026 examined breast-reduction operations performed at one Finnish institution between 2005 and 2024.
Researchers found comparable overall complication rates between patients treated by plastic surgeons and those treated by trained general surgeons. However, the study was retrospective, and the groups differed in size and some characteristics. The authors say larger prospective studies are needed before drawing broader conclusions. These findings cannot predict an individual patient’s outcome or establish the safety of a different hospital or surgeon. A useful consultation should address the proposed surgeon’s relevant training and experience, alongside your individual assessment.
Four questions to take into your planning
If you are considering treatment in Türkiye or North Cyprus, these questions can help organise your discussions:
What relevant training and experience does my surgeon have in this procedure?
How will my individual suitability and risks be assessed?
Who should I contact if my journey changes?
What arrangements and costs apply if I need to extend my stay?
Keep the answers with your written treatment plan and quotation. Resolving practical questions before booking can make the arrangements clearer.
